About

cedar, sun and devils club

My name is Tyler Pedersen and I am an avid photographer, poet, ecologist, bookworm, nature enthusiast and runner from Helena, Montana. I have self-published one book of poetry titled, “Nostalgia, Naturally,” through Authorhouse in 2007. My specialties are concrete poetry (e.g., sculpting words into all sorts of shapes) and free verse.

Waxing Poetic

As an ecologist, I have performed a wide range of field work jobs including tracking endangered and threatened rattlesnakes and turtles in Illinois, trapping small mammals in Eastern Montana, blazing trails in Western Montana and Idaho and coring trees in the sub-alpine forests of Wyoming and Colorado.

Tyler Pedersen

In 2006, I graduated from the University of Montana with a major in Ecology and minor in Art History and criticism. After college, I served two years in Americorps as an Montana Conservation Corps crew member in Helena, Montana and Biodiversity Conservation Coordinator for the City of Gresham, Oregon. For the last 4 years, I have worked at the Coos Watershed Association, a non-profit watershed council, in Coos Bay, Oregon. Here, I managed and implemented riparian and wetland restoration projects, collected and analyzed field data and wrote reports and successfully-funded grant proposals. I also spent a considerable time controlling and mapping invasive plants like Japanese knotweed, gorse and purple loosestrife.

free spirit

Presently, I work for the North & South Santiam Watershed Councils as their Shared Restoration Projects Manager. I live in Harrisburg, Oregon with my wife, newborn daughter and our two dogs and two cats. Nature continues to inspire me everyday and I am excited to share with you my musings on the unfurled sudden splendor that this planet affords.

It’s wonderful getting to know about you, Tyler. You have had quite a career. The reflective imagery of what a leaf goes through, how creative. I love the way you created the leaf shape. Extraordinary photos. You are quite an adventurer. 🙂

    • Thank you kindly, my friend! I greatly appreciate your support and thoughtful comment 🙂 Nature has always been with me through all of my life experiences & is a constant source of inspiration in everything I do. It’s nice to just photograph & write, but at the end of the day, my words turn into actions to help restore watersheds for both humans & wildlife alike. I want to leave this planet in better shape for my newborn daughter and for other children. Have a wonderful week ahead, Nancy 🙂
