October sun

The ancient eavesdropper

Our October sun
is akin to a
Jack-o-lantern
falling fast from
the heavens,
splattering its
stringy,
orange
guts atop
the horizon —
a clutter
of white
seeds sticking
as stars to
the inky
backdrop
of ancient
newsprint.
