Immersed in otherness

Immersed in otherness

Braided river channels meander
across a mountainous landscape,
as water passes freely through
the threshold of earth and sky,
mixing oxygen with sediment —
white riffle clouds stirring
dark rain shadows.
Side ridges of
emerald tree spire stubble
and granite facade stretching
miles —
boundless elements
immersed in otherness.
Manifold microcosms
eternally changing —
different, new, ephemeral,
yet familiar together,
ice ages apart.
Eons elucidating
beautiful mysteries
for all the world
to see.

  1. I have missed reading your posts….

    • Thank you, my friend! I missed staying up-to-date with my WordPress family and reading/viewing your inspiring work as well. Humans cannot survive on work alone. Nature and poetry balance my soul and drive my creative mania! Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend 🙂
      Cheers,
      Tyler

    • Thank you, my friend! It feels great to return to my poetic roots. I’ve been working so much lately that I haven’t found the time (or internet connection) to blog. Hope you are doing well and had a wonderful day 🙂
      Cheers,
      Tyler

  2. Jessica says:

    beautiful! I love this one!

    • Thank you, Jessica! Glacier Park was amazing! No sooner did I get back from vacation, my work took me down to Mt. Shasta in California, so this explains my two week blogging gap. Hopefully, I’ll have some time to blog on my days off if I’m not too worn out. Have a wonderful night and Friday, my friend!
      Cheers,
      Tyler 🙂

  3. Oh so that is Glacier National Park. Wow. Your poem is perfect for the pic.

    • Thank you, my friend! I was on vacation in Glacier Park around Labor Day and then spent a week near Mt. Shasta in California for my job, so I’ve been all over the place. It feels good to be back in Oregon, coming home at the end of the day to my wife, pets, poetry and WordPress friends! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend 🙂
      Cheers,
      Tyler

    • Thank you, Cynthia! It feels great to be back posting on my blog. Work may pay for my food and rent, but poetry and Nature feeds my soul. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, my friend!
      Cheers,
      Tyler 🙂

      • And you as well! (I quit work so I could enjoy life and write more!)

      • I think you have the right idea, Cynthia! More and more each day, my soul longs to write of its wild, boundless origins. Although I’m fortunate enough to work outside, I’m still conflicted by conformity. Oh, where would we be without life’s bittersweet ironies, probably poorer in the pocketbook, but richer in spirit 😉
        Cheers,
        Tyler

    Wow….you are really good!!! Bravo!!

    • Thank you! I really appreciate your kind words. I’m just getting back into posting on my blog since I’ve been away on work. Not sure how I lived without writing poetry. Luckily, I’m outside in Nature all day for my job, so there is always something to inspire my eye, words and images to summon later when I have time to unwind. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
      Cheers,
      Tyler 🙂

  9. Carol Donaldson says:

    Hi Tyler,

Thanks for liking my post ‘Buzz Off’. You seem like a man after my own heart and sound like you do a similar job to mine, only in a slightly bigger landscape! Loved your poem too particularly the line ‘beautiful mysteries,’ doesn’t that just sum up the wonder of it all.

    • You are most welcome, Carol, and thank you kindly for the heartfelt comment! I look forward to following any kindred spirit who has a mutual friend in Nature. Keep inspiring the world with your blog and have a wonderful week 🙂
      Cheers,
      Tyler

  10. fallcorn1936 says:

I only wish that my poetry is as good as yours. Wonderful

    • Thank you, my friend! I am humbled by your kind words. In Nature, no landscape or organism is more or less beautiful or important than the next – the sky does not envy the water or earth for having something it does not. It exists to complement the whole as is. So too, poets or photographers need not compare themselves – each creative spirit has unique stories & gifts to share and merge into one collective consciousness. Keep inspiring the world, my friend, while embracing your otherness 🙂
      Cheers,
      Tyler

    Hi Tyler,

I’ve just re-blogged your poem as I really liked it. I hope that’s ok. Actually I’m not sure re-blog is the right term, really, at heart, I’m a luddite just masquerading as someone who’s technology friendly.

    • Thank you, Carol, for re-posting my poem/photo on your blog! It means a lot coming from someone like you who is an award-winning, published & well-known nature writer. How did your Nature writing workshop go? It looked very interested (and something I would attend if I lived closer!) I hope you have a wonderful day!
      Cheers,
      Tyler 🙂

  15. Ah! Such a refreshing and beautiful read. 🙂
You, my friend, glorify the natural beauty in your words..

Could be my Old World – absolutely love it!

  17. Shards Of DuBois says:

beautiful poem Tyler!! and the picture was ephemeral!!! (all except the chemtrail in the very background!) I was wondering if you heard that 90% of the glaciers are gone now while there by the rangers, etc.,, or if that’s just crap passed around the web?? really depressed me when I heard it!

  19. Thanx for sharing the poem and landscape with us.

  20. Glad you stopped by. You were erased from my Reader (along with others) and I couldn’t find you. So, now you’re back:)

    • WordPress has been a bit wonky lately. I’m not sure if it’s a glitch or what…are you having any other problems? I always look forward to your chicken cartoons, photos & poems & will have to catch up on reading since you were taken off my reader as well. Not sure how this could happen. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas & best wishes to you & yours in 2014!
      Cheers,
      Tyler 🙂

  21. Beautiful image and poem!

  22. I am recalled by your blessed poem to many words from Laozi, but especially Dào De Jing 28. http://keithwaynebrown.com/2013/04/24/daodejing-28/

    • Thank you kindly, Keith! To be mentioned in the same sentence with Laozi is truly humbling…I am familiar with the Dao De Jing & think your translation is beautiful 🙂 May you & yours be blessed in this New Year!
      Cheers,
      Tyler 🙂

  23. Patrice says:

Absolutely gorgeous!!! As all your photos and words are 😀

  24. Love the title, the poem and the photo. Incredible.

    • Thank you kindly, Jennifer! I’m glad you enjoyed my post & appreciate you following my blog. The photo was taken last Labor Day weekend at Glacier National Park in Montana. I was born and raised in Big Sky Country and my heart lives for its clean, tranquil rivers, roaming mountains and beautiful, unique flora and fauna. Where do you call home? No matter where we reside, there is always awe and wonder. I look forward to following your blog. Have a wonderful weekend, my new friend 🙂
      Cheers,
      Tyler

      • Hello Tyler,

Your blog is incredible, I love your photos and your poems are really good. They’re straightforward but still beautiful. It’s not a quality I typically find in most poems. I currently call Sacramento home. I’ve lived here my whole life but I look forward to the day that I can move from here and live in Canada.

It’s true there is always awe and wonder no matter where we go. I’m a firm believer that you can find beauty in anything. Like Confucius said “Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it”. I hope that my blog posts will not disappoint you! I do my best to take photos everyday so I can continue to improve my artistic eye. I did have a wonderful weekend, I hope you did too. 🙂

        Regards,
        Jennifer

  25. Your words are so rich and full of imagery. beautiful!

    • Thank you kindly! I’m glad you enjoyed my poem 🙂 This photo was taken at the breathtakingly scenic Glacier National Park, deep at the heart of Montana’s Big Sky Country. Most of my posts are inspired by Nature and the wild places I’ve lived. The name of my blog refers to a giant tree that has absorbed all the stories of this world in its roots and branches. Trees help us breathe and I would not be alive today if not for their presence. I hope you have a wonderful Friday and weekend, my friend 🙂
      Cheers,
      Tyler

      • I love the idea of a tree that absorbs stories! What rich imagery that brings to mind. I spent much of my childhood in trees, so they always represent to me the carefree-ness and imagination of being a kid. The title of your blog seems ripe for visual artistic interpretation – I think it will play in my mind today! 🙂

    Beautiful words and photography

    • Thank you kindly! I’m glad you enjoyed it, my friend 🙂 This photo was taken at the awe-inspiring & picturesque Glacier National Park in Montana. I grew up at the base of the Continental Divide near Helena and my heart belongs to Big Sky Country. No matter where you live, there is always awe and wonder. Have a wonderful week and thank you for passing through!
      Cheers,
      Tyler 🙂

    • Thank you so much, my friend! I love your poems and smile every time I see your purr-fect cat icon 😉 Ever since I was a child, I’ve always had an affinity for turtles, especially the Teenage Mutant Ninja variety. I hope you have a wonderful Friday and weekend 🙂
      Cheers,
      Tyler

  32. Thanks for your follow of Heart of Life Poetry, I appreciate it. I’ve been reading your posts for some time now—I resonate with your passion for the beauty and wisdom of nature.

    • You are most welcome, my friend, and thank you! It’s always a pleasure to meet another kindred spirit on WordPress…we have a shared passion for Nature.
