Rhythm to entropy

Hypnotic forces are at work in the stasis before a storm, silence lulling the mind into believing our body’s atoms will not be altered, that skin will suffice for a make-shift shelter, but soon enough, parading echoes of precipitation break the bubble of our concentration, as electric entropy floods all final thoughts, senses free to absorb this mercurial moment, our atoms diffusing and dancing with the elements…

The ancient eavesdropper

A canopy of clouds collapse upon the sun,
rays shattered with a sharpness akin to countless
lightning strikes atop shore pine skeletons.
Dead silence rings absolute before the swells rise
and rain tap dances on roof top and asphalt
keeping tumultuous time.
Gusty winds upturn umbrellas
and back-peddle pedestrians dressed in
yellow ponchos: everything is a spastic
puppet animated by unseen punches.
Swirling water gurgles from gutters,
flushing out stale debris amid metallic
echoes that give rhythm to entropy.
Drops pelt the earth and dig holes in gravel roads,
spawning another cycle of mud puddles
and dirty soles.
Each moment leaves its mark
where a restless heart throbs
submerged in the body
of a thundering mob.
