Storing sunlight

I have been busy with field work and job interviews, so I haven’t had free time to pen fresh poems. However, I hope this re-blogged poem and photo will suffice for now. Enjoy!

Storing warmth

Symbiotic lichens anticipate
autumn crimson and winter
white snow in thick blankets
worn atop a maple bole, its
branches waving with a crowd
of green five-fingered leaves,
cheering summer to new heights,
storing sunlight for longer nights.
