Cheshire forces

My pets inspire whole new worlds…

The ancient eavesdropper

Cheshire forces

Two cats sit atop the sill
and peer out our window,
as nonchalant wind paws
at brown curtains with
unseen Cheshire forces.

Warm summertime
static of sun and birdsong
stands fur on edge, alerting
senses, shifting ears, eyes
and attention spans.

A lone crow grooms grass
in front of a feline audience,
odd caws draw meow applause,
although spared the brunt of pet pursuit
by panes that double trouble shoot.

Suddenly,
cat concentration connects,
both tails batting home
a fly as it tap-danced
awkwardly across
plate glass.

Thus,
the best moments
tickle our noses
like whiskers,
often scratching
hard-to-reach
cerebral itches.
