Blueprint

Suddenly, as if on cue,
sunlight came streaming through,
uninhibited by hazy fog, puffy clouds or water dogs.

Simple blue-skied radiance spanning the ocean abyss like a rubber-band bridge, stretching across vanishing points,

high above the water’s surface, held aloft by the power of its pureness.

Seagulls sway back and forth as if tangled in invisible cables.

Seals bark and the surf roars to applaud the moment before it withdraws

into a nighttime blackboard where stars dot the space behind the blueprint.

Apart from the fact that I am not by the sea, those words perfectly express the sudden appearance of the blue sky here a moment or two ago.

The earth patents the blueprint to our life, its drafting board filled with sun, stars, sea and sky, clear enough for us to copy in due time…
